This article will help absolute beginners to start navigating guitar's fretboard.

Make sure you studied open strings first.

Two more mnemonic techniques will help you memorize notes on your guitar's fretboard.

On the fifth fret, from 6th ( the fattest string ) to the thinnest:

All Dilligent Guitarists Can Easily Achieve

And on the 10th fret:

Don't Get Caught Fretting All Day

Knowing notes on these frets and open strings can already allow you to map out the entire fretboard.

There are 12 notes in the musical alphabet. Those are, as you will see them in the exercises: A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#.

If you take any string on guitar, you will find that the notes repeat in alphabetical order.

For example, let's look at the 6th string. When we play it open - we can hear E2. Then F2 is on the 1st fret. Then, the notes arranged alphabetically, ending on fret 11 with G#. On the 12th fret, we can see E again. This time, it is one octave higher - E3.
